Values
The first letter of the equation, V, stands for values.  Organizational values are well-defined individual and leader behavioral expectations.  Such behavioral expectations might include trust, respect, integrity, commitment, risk taking and teamwork.

HR Fundamentals
Fundamentals are the F in the foundation of The Leader’s Equation.  Fundamentals are the human resource (HR) basics that must be established and implemented consistent with organizational values.  Much like meeting the basic human needs of food, shelter and clothing, meeting basic needs, including pay, benefits, safety and other key human resource procedures, is vital to organizational success.

Organizational Design
The O in the equation foundation represents organizational design.  Organizational design is one of the most underappreciated talents of successful leaders.  Often new leaders simply drive the majority of work through individuals with the demonstrated ability to deliver results.  This approach is flawed and creates an unbalanced workload.  It also frankly rewards those incapable or unwilling to deliver results with less work and accountability, and punishes top performers with more work and accountability.  The Leader’s Equation offers a different approach.  Consider temporarily ignoring the current talent within the team and design your organization around the processes required to deliver expected outcomes.
